The classic setting of the Bar Harbor Motel brings new meaning to the word “hospitality.” Our property offers an exceptional base location from which to explore and enjoy all the area has to offer. We provide the essential amenities to make your stay memorable!

Pool & Patio

After a long walk on the carriage paths there are few things more refreshing than a dip in our pool. Maintained at a pleasant 80 degrees, our pool is so clear it looks like we imported the water from the Caribbean.

The pool is open from 8:30AM – 10:00PM, in-season, and is fully fenced and gated to keep our younger guests where they belong.

You’ll find plenty of comfortable chairs and lounges in which to relax as you read your favorite novel or simply “catch some rays.”

One of the most convenient ways to get around Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Island is on the Island Explorer shuttle bus system. This is a free, public transportation system that links together many of the area’s most popular sites and attractions using low-emissions, propane powered buses.

Besides being free, the next best thing about the Island Explorer is it stops right in front of our property. Many of our guests report that they never used their vehicle during the entire time they were here. That certainly is the goal of the system and we’re happy to see it benefit our guests so directly.

Trail Access To Acadia

Just seven tenths (7/10) of a mile separate the back of our property and the historic carriage roads of Acadia National Park. The Bar Harbor Motel/Acadia Connector Trail join the two near intersection #5.   This connector trail is nicely worn down and easily followed.

The carriage roads are a system of 45 miles of carefully groomed, 16 foot wide, crushed gravel roads featuring some of the most spectacular stone and masonry work in country. A gift from John D. Rockefeller Jr. and his family, the carriage roads are closed  to all motorized traffic. Many of our guests report exploring all of Acadia National Park by bicycle and never interacting with any vehicles.

Please don’t get the idea these roads are just for bicyclers. The carriage roads are much softer and easier on the joints than asphalt or cement making them a terrific place for a brisk walk to burn off those blueberry pancakes.

“I like riding my bicycle… its fun and its healthy but, you know, there are other things I like too. My significant other, though, eats chains and sprockets for breakfast, lunch and dinner. How can we spend an afternoon together doing something we’ll both enjoy?”

Eat a light lunch. Put some trail snacks and water in your backpacks or saddlebags. Check your bikes over, including your tire pressures. Leave our property via the Bar Harbor Motel/Acadia Connector Trail and join the carriage road system at intersection #5.

Following your carriage road map, make your way to Jordan Pond House (located in between intersection 14 and 15). Once you’re at Jordan Pond House, you simply MUST have Tea & Popovers on the lawn overlooking the pond. There is a lovely trail around Jordan Pond and if you still have energy to burn, try it out. If not, have another cup of tea!

When you’re all finished, you’ll be pleased to know that Jordan Pond House is a stop for the Island Explorer bus system. This system will take you back to our motel (you may have to transfer to another bus in Bar Harbor) and the buses do takes bicycles. Be sure to check a current bus schedule for connection times and availability.

Jordan Pond House is quite popular and at certain times during the year it is difficult to get a table. You may make a reservation by calling 1-207-276-3316.

Bicycle & Kayak Storage

We understand that your trail bike is an expensive piece of machinery that you would prefer to keep indoors protected from theft and the elements. That’s why we have built a fully enclosed storage building so that our guests can store their bicycles (and kayaks) while they stay at the Bar Harbor Motel.

Each hanger in the storage building is equipped with an anchor point so you may secure your bike to the hanger with a standard chain or cable lock. We do not supply the locks.

The storage building is open from 6AM until 10PM each day and is large enough to accommodate several kayaks as well.

Because our guests have found this storage so easy and convenient, we do not allow bicycles (or kayaks) in our rooms.

You can wash it all down with coffee, tea, milk, and four different juices.
